WNBA Trading Cards Are Outselling NBA Cards Right Now. Here’s Why Nobody Is Surprised.

It won’t be long before someone brings up the WNBA in any serious collector’s conversation right now, like the ones that happen on Discord at midnight or in the back corners of card shows. In particular, they’ll talk about prices. They will also talk about Caitlin Clark.

There is a reason why things are going so well in the sports card hobby in 2026. It’s not hype that caused a single auction result to be too high. Secondary market tracking from April and May 2026 shows that the prices of WNBA cards went up between 18% and 35%. This was mostly true for Silver Prizm rookies and low-numbered parallels. Standard NBA rookie cards, on the other hand, are worth between 8% and 15%. There is a big gap there. When it comes to collectibles, that gap is big.

It seems like the market for NBA cards has been stuck for a while now. A lot of people keep coming back to the word “oversaturation.” Flagship sets print in such large quantities that scarcity seems almost impossible. Prices stay the same when supply equals or exceeds demand. It shows up in the hobby. Old collectors feel it the most.

The WNBA market uses a completely different set of math. It’s true that print runs are small. There aren’t many population reports for high-end WNBA parallels, which is a huge deal for anyone who knows how scarcity affects the value of a card over time. For experienced collectors, the math is pretty easy when a PSA 10 of a WNBA rookie shows low population numbers and rising viewership behind the player.

It’s clear that Caitlin Clark is the person being talked about, but it would be too simple to make the whole thing about her. The WNBA market as a whole benefited from what she brought, including record-breaking TV ratings, new younger fans, and social media making card pulls more popular in ways that were once only seen in the NFL and NBA. That’s not a celebrity moment; it’s a change in the way things work. There won’t be any more of those new collectors.

It’s still not clear if this growth rate will continue at the same rate until the end of 2026 or if the market will reach a natural ceiling as more goods come on the market. There is real uncertainty there, and every honest collector knows it. But the fact that new WNBA sets are more efficient with their short print runs than new NBA base sets gives women’s basketball cards a structural advantage that won’t go away overnight.

As a result, the strategy that most serious collectors are using is pretty consistent: cut down on over-produced NBA base cards, hold on to elite vintage or rare inserts, and buy WNBA parallels with numbers below 99 when the market drops. To get the most money when it’s time to move, you should choose high-grade singles over raw cards.

As I’ve watched this happen over the past few months, it’s hard not to see more than just the prices. The WNBA was on the edges of mainstream sports attention for a long time. Many of the team’s players are truly elite athletes by any reasonable standard, and their collectibles were treated as such by both manufacturers and collectors. That is no longer the case, and the market is just confirming what the game already knew.
